In residential design, Jaro
Designers work with our clients to make a house your home. We believe that
award winning design is simply not enough. We understand that residential
design must be functional and beautiful because it is first and foremost a
living space.
A living
space reflects those who live within it. Jaro Designers understand
this basic fact.
We work
closely with you, our client, to integrate your personal style into a
unified design. If
you don't believe it, simply review a sample project slideshow.
Family
House Family
House is a home away from home for patients and families of patients staying
in Pittsburgh while receiving medical treatment at the University of
Pittsburgh Medical Center. The demands of this project were very unique to
be sure. There were many code requirements not present on most residential
projects, and many stylistic requirements not present in most commercial /
institutional projects. Amelia Dean, B.S.I.D., Jaro Interiors, Inc., owner
and Principal took the lead on this exciting project. Amelia wanted to
create a comfortable, homey atmosphere with functional consistency. What
emerged was a charming space both welcoming and comforting.

Mortland
Physical Therapy
In 38 years of business, Jaro
Interiors has developed an extensive portfolio of commercial design
projects. One interesting project was the Mortland Physical Therapy offices.
Designer Linda Lopez took the lead on this project. From design concept to
completion, Linda worked with the owners using functional input to guide
her vision. In a commercial space in which function is such a priority, it
can be tempting to over-emphasize function over aesthetics. In this case
Linda chose subtle colors to create a relaxing feel. She understood that a
softened color palette would be soothing to clients engaged in painful
physical therapy. However, Mortland is also a conventional gym for its
members. Linda did not want the decor to become "institutional", so she
chose the modern yellow and blue tones to keep the space feeling fresh and
invigorating. It's amazing what color can do to inspire the mind!
Dollhouse
Miniatures
Many commercial design projects
become total renovations. In the case of "Dollhouse Miniatures", the
building was formerly a pizza shop. Jaro Interiors, Inc. Owner and
Principal, Amelia Dean realized that quite obviously, these businesses
had vastly different functional requirements. The Dollhouse owner
needed display space above all. She also needed to very charmingly woo
customers into the retail store. Amelia's concept for the space was for the
Shoppe itself to be transformed from the plain jane brick exterior into a
Painted Lady Victorian Dollhouse. Fanciful gingerbread trim work was
designed as an appliqué onto the brick facade. Inside, the Victorian concept
finds architectural expression in lacy spandrels of spindle work within
archways, in the moldings and specially designed cabinetry, and in an
antique fireplace mantel. The owner's expansive collection of antique
wooden and glass curio cabinets supplement the display space. The bay
windows beckon customers as they approach with a 180 degree view of these
beautifully detailed dollhouses. In addition to the commercial space,
an upstairs apartment was also in need of a redesign. First, the stairs and
doorways had to be adapted to accommodate handicapped persons. The bathroom
was fitted with handrails, comfort height toilet and accessible shower, and
a wider door opening. The bedroom entrance was widened and the wall moved
back to create more space in the bathroom. Needless to say, this project was
an interesting mix of commercial, residential and special needs design. This
is the expertise and creativity that Amelia brings to every project.
